Why This Matters
The conversation around AI is broken.
In the Global North, it’s all: “Will AI take my job?” “How do I regulate it?” “Alignment and safety concerns.”
These are important questions. But they’re not the only story.
In emerging markets, the story is different. It’s: “AI just gave me 10 hours back per week.” “I can finally compete with bigger businesses.” “I can diagnose disease that would take months to see a doctor for.”
For 1 billion+ people in Africa, Asia, Latin America, AI isn’t a threat. It’s infrastructure they’ve been waiting for.

Who Writes This
Hi, I’m Irene. I’m a data engineer by training, but I’ve spent the last year obsessed with one question: How do real people actually use AI?
Not how Silicon Valley thinks they’ll use it. Not how it’s theoretically possible. Actually use it.
I traveled to Nigeria, Kenya, India, South Africa interviewing founders, creators, healthcare workers, and documented what they’re building. Then I realized: these stories need to be published. Shared. Studied.
So here we are.
